It's been a very sad and emotional week with the loss of my Grammy which is weighing heavy on all of our hearts. We are headed to Michigan tomorrow for the funeral so it was nice to have a day to celebrate Grammy and the Easter Bunny. Easter for us is all about spring, family and the magic of childhood. Here is how we celebrated this year:
- Avery found some yummy cupcakes on Pinterest and her and Nora made them on Friday. They are filled with Cadbury eggs and decorated with chocolate sprinkle nests with robins eggs in the middle.
- On Saturday we prepared our dishes. Taylor was a big help and peeled all of the carrots with G. We also rolled out sugar cookies and decorated them for dessert on Sunday.
- On Sunday, we started the day with a scavenger hunt to find their baskets. It's the first year Avery doesn't believe in the bunny but she was still incredibly excited to find her basket. The kids slept with G last night (they all needed each other!) and then woke us up at 9 to start the hunt. Avery could not have been a sweeter sister reading all the clues and letting Tay take the lead on the easy ones and helping him with the hard ones. After an hour and finding 40 clues they found their stash and LOVED their gifts. Avery was super excited to get lots of Harry Potter themed presents and Tay loved his Bakugan toys the most.
- We had breakfast mixed with some candy, played with our new toys and then got ready for supper.
- Lila, Lena, Marija and Bill joined us along with Papa, G, Cullen and KJ. The kids did an egg hunt outside and just had a blast playing together giving the adults lots of time to visit. Tay and Lena sat alone on the counter for dinner which Tay said was good because "it would be romantic". The two are convinced they are going to get married which would be more than OK with all of us :)
- We had an amazing meal and then enjoyed the desserts prepared mostly by Avery.
- Kids ended the night with some much needed Bingo snuggles!!
- We honored Grammy by using the gorgeous family china she gave to Hung and me for our wedding and also displayed a few of the amazing flower arrangements that have been sent to G and me since Grammy passed. Her presence was definitely felt and a lot of our conversations were reminiscing about our favorite Grammy memories of which there are many.
Happy Spring and Happy Easter - We hope the days ahead are bright and warm!
