Avery and G take NYC!

I had to go NYC for work and was able to bring Avery and G along for the trip. It was a whirlwind few days and we had a great time!! We arrived late Monday after a 4 hour delay due to weather (Avery handled the delay great - We made a stop at the candy store and they had a play area where she met a friend and passed the time). While I was at my meeting on Tuesday, Avery and G went to Central Park where they explored the zoo and took a carriage ride and had lunch at a little Italian joint and they also went to Do (which Avery has been obsessed with trying - they had to wait 30 minutes to get their Cookie Dough bowls but Avery said it was worth it!). After a quick nap, we met Aunt Debbie for dinner and then saw Uncle Nate's show. The plot is a bit advanced and there are some dark themes with PTSD but Avery really loved it and wanted to go back and see it again Wednesday night!

On Wednesday, Avery and G did the carnival area at Central Park - She was really excited to win 2 stuffed animals in the claw game with just one grab. She also met a friend from Florida and they were able to play together all day and do lots of rides. G and Avery also took a turn on the old fashioned carousel. We met Aunt Debbie and Uncle Nate for dinner and saw the show again. We got to go backstage both nights and Avery got to meet both the leads and see Uncle Nate's dressing room. It was such a special experience and am so glad she was able to see Nate perform.

We had a super early flight home on Thursday - We only got a few hours of sleep but Avery was a trooper and a joy to travel with. A big thanks to G for her showing her the city while I worked. We really had a great trip!!

Some cute Avery lines from NYC:
  • At the zoo - "I'd really like to see some mammals now, G"
  • "My love for you, G, is an active love and my love with Grammy is more of a peaceful love."
  • In the show one of the soldiers dies and the lead explains how it happens and says something about hiding in a fox hole and the grenade goes off. After the show Avery said "So Michael was eaten by a Fox?"
Day 1 - Carriage ride, extra hydration, lunch and nap!

Chicago Trip - Summer 2017

We ventured to Chicago this past weekend to visit friends and family. It was a BUSY weekend and we are all exhausted today but we had a blast. We spent Friday night at Jill and Jeff's (with John and Jaxson) and Rachel joined us as well with her kids Lily and Max. The kids loved playing outside and driving around in the power wheels, playing basket ball and baseball and the sandbox. Tay LOVED the Sandbox a little too much - we hosed him down like 10 times. We ended the night with a bonfire and the girls told REALLY long "ghost stories" about princesses who didn't do what their parents said and then got lost in the woods. The boys got bored and started running around again. It was such a fun night for the grown ups and the kiddos.

On Saturday we met went to Millennium Park with Uncle Du and also met up with Aunt Maddie. The spitting face towers were the biggest hit - It was a HOT day and both kids loved getting wet and playing in the water. Tay usually shies away from anything water so I loved seeing him get into it. He would run super fast, fall, get right back up and take off again. Over and over. After some downtime and naps, Jill, Josh, Derek and Molly came over to Du's for dinner. Again - it was a great night catching up with friends and felt like no time had passed since we last saw each other. We went up to the rooftop after dinner and the kids found a chair that spun and they basically spun each other in circles until we made them go back inside. It made me dizzy just looking at them!! I told Avery she was in charge of the little kids and she took her job very seriously. We also got to see Eddie for a bit, which was great. Such a fun night!

Sunday was Father's Day and Hung and Du went golfing. Maddie and I took the kids to Navy Pier - they loved the Ferris Wheel and the Children's museum. Avery said her favorite part was "beating" Aunt Maddie at chess 2 times. Tay loved the building area - he really got into playing with tools and I felt like I was looking at a mini-Hung. We ended with ice cream and then both kids were spent!!

We had SUCH a great time but are all totally exhausted today. It was totally worth it, though :)

Millenium Park - Hot and ready for the water!
