33 Month Update

Here are some fun things from Month 33:
  • Hung was cutting down boxes with a knife and cut jeans by accident. Avery asked what happened and after he told her she went into the kitchen and got a fork. She gave it to Hung and said not to use knives anymore and the fork would be safer.
  • Avery threw a fit on the way home from school one day and was screaming at Hung that she would "NOT SAY THE MAGIC WORD" for her snack. So she got home, calmed down and we had a normal night. When she was ready for bed she went up to Hung, unprompted,  and took Hung's hand. She told him "Daddy, we got in a fight and it was my fault and I am sorry. Next time, I'll say 'Thanks Daddy for bringing my raisins for my snack.'" It was so darn sweet and thoughtful of her.
  • I was putting Avery down for a nap and she was stalling and being a little difficult. I was tired too and snapped a bit. And Avery said "Mama, you are frustrated and I don't want you to be frustrated with me." That pulled me out of my mood quickly!!
  • Avery's teacher said "Avery, you look pretty today." And Avery replied "Not as pretty as you Ms. Sandy."
  • Avery was making up lullaby's with me before bed. Her Avery lullaby went like this "Avery loves rainbows and birdies" and my lullaby went like this "Mommy loves birdies and birdies love rainbows". And then she made up one for Hung that went like this "Daddy loves beer and daddy loves coffee."
  • Avery and Hung were at the park. They met a little girl names Livy. And Avery said "My name is Avery Come Trieu". And Hung said "I'm Daddy" and Avery said "No, your name is H-Tiggity" (which is what my mom calls him and she now thinks it is part of his name).
  • Avery loves playing outside so we are very happy to have our new backyard - If it's a nice night we are at the park, on her play-set or playing in the front yard with sidewalk chalk and bubbles.
  • I usually put Avery to bed and she always resists when Hung tries to "Rock-a-bye" (as we call it). One night Hung asked if he could put her to bed and she said no and got really upset. We asked why and she said "Because Daddy farts in my room." The girl has a very sensitive sense of smell - any scent and she goes "EEEEWWWW What is that SMELL???!!"
  • She uses the term "I killed it" when she eats something she really likes. We were having dinner with Grammy the other night and she was having olives from salad bar. When she was done Avery said, "I killed those olives."
  • She just keeps growing!! 4T is getting too small and I now need size 5/6 shirts!! She has my long torso and the 4T's look like crop tops :)
  • Avery says Bitar (Guitar), Sun Cream (Sun Screen), Pazani (Lasagna), Sail Boat (Garage Sail) and Pasghetti (Spaghetti) - There are other funny ones but those are the top that come to mind.
  • She has an awesome little lisp that I will miss dearly when it goes away
We snapped some pictures before heading to the pool.

Last Day of School at MSW

Today was Avery's last day in the Toddler Room at MSW. Next fall she'll enter the MSW Children's House for Pre-School. I know she will be ready for it but I was NOT ready for her to leave Ms. Tina and Ms. Sandy. They have been truly amazing - Avery had a wonderful, happy, and calm year. She was comfortable and confident in her class, made lots of friends, was loved by her teachers and was just a happy girl (the most important thing to me). I am forever grateful to her teachers for giving us such a safe and incredible environment for Avery to grow in. The bar has been set very high for any future classes.

We went to the end of school picnic after the noon dismissal and Avery got to play with some friends and give her teachers one last hug before summer. I was a crying, bumbling, hugging mess as we left (Avery told me if I am sad I can just look at her teacher's pictures and then I won't be sad anymore) - Hung and Avery seemed just fine and ready for summer.

Thanks again to Ms. Sandy and Ms. Tina for being the absolute best.

Memorial Day BBQ

We had a great Memorial Day weekend - Hung's parents came for a visit (Avery put on an awesome "show" for them one night where she was Sheriff Callie and saved all of us multiple times - we tried to get it on video but it was too dark), we got to try out the neighborhood pool a couple of times, and we went to two cook outs with friends. I did not get any pics at the one Mike and Poonam held on Sunday but took lots at the one that Leah and Alex hosted on Monday afternoon. They have a huge yard and the kids had a blast running around and playing with all the toys. Avery put her hotdog on a stick and sat by the firepit (with no fire!) and pretended to camp and have a cook out with Hung. We will have to make sure she gets a real one this summer! We tried to get the kids to "pose" for pictures without much success. And then we ended the weekend with G coming over and giving Avery a real Elsa dress from Frozen - shr was one happy girl and asked if she could wear it for two days. It was the perfect way to end the long weekend :)

First Dip in the New Pool

We were able to test out the neighborhood pool this weekend. We went after dinner on Saturday night and it was deserted since the weather had cooled down a bit. Uncle Cullen was brave enough to venture in with Avery. At first she was a little intimidated and only wanted to play in the baby pool.

Finally, Cullen coaxed her into the big pool and by the end she had her "swimmies" off and was practicing kicking and using her arms trying to copy Cullen. It was so fun to watch them swim and play together.

We also met the lifeguard named Morgan. Avery was super chatty with her and got out of the pool at one point and walked over to her chair and said "What are drinking" and Morgan said "Raspberry Lemonade". Avery jumped up and down and said "I LOVE Lemonade!". As we were leaving Morgan said "Bye Avery" and Avery yells out "Bye Morgan. Thanks for telling me what you had to drink."

Mackinac Island - May 2014

We were so lucky to be able to spend the weekend on Mackinac Island. My mom, Avery and I headed up to Mackinaw City on Thursday (It was a 7 hour drive and Avery did amazing both ways - with a little help from the iPad and Snacks). We spent Thursday night and Friday morning swimming in the hotel. Pat, Elisabeth and Matilda joined us Friday morning and the girls had a lot of fun playing in the pool. Avery was pretending she was Princess Una from Sophia the First and she had lost her family and we had to swim around to find them.

We made it the Island by lunch time on Friday. Avery was ready for a nap and passed out in her stroller shortly after we arrived. She was a little cranky when she woke up but after her hot dog she was back to herself and ready to enjoy the butterfly museum.

Avery loved her first carriage ride up to the Grand Hotel. We had a blast exploring the hotel - Avery really enjoyed the old fashioned carriage and game room. And she also got really into "No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed!!". Whenever we saw a phone, she had to call the "doctor" and we played this game a ton in our hotel room (see some videos below).

We had lots of fun getting dressed up each night, eating a fancy meal, and dancing and exploring around the hotel after dinner. The girls even had matching dresses on Saturday and got lots of attention.

We had a full day on Saturday - Private Carriage ride around the island in the morning, a walk into town and playing at the park, Grand Lunch Buffett, nap, ice cream treat and playing around the hotel, dinner, dancing/running around before finally crashing at 10:30 pm. Avery loved seeing all the dressed up high school girls in sparkly gowns - she went up to them asking if they were a princess and then wanted to shake their hands. It was so cute!

On Sunday we had a nice breakfast, took a carriage ride into town, did some shopping and then took a cold and windy boat ride back to Mackinaw City. Another 7 hours car trip and we are finally home :) We had SO much fun. Avery kept saying she wanted to go back to Mackinac the whole way home. Hopefully we can someday!
