32 Month Update

Here are some fun things from Month 32:

  • Avery has been into planning her birthday party (which will be in August). One of her plans is to have orange cake with green frosting and pink candles, lemonade, and chicken noodle soup. That will be some party!!
  • She wants to be part of every conversation. If Hung and I are chatting she will say "What are you guys talking about?" over and over until we fill her in.
  • Avery always says "Remember when....". Her memory is insane and nothing gets by her. She connects things in the present to things that happened a pretty long time ago. Her memory truly amazes me! For example, I told her Uncle Nate was coming to visit who she has not seen in over a year and she goes "Is he bringing instruments? Uncle Nate always places instruments with me." Which, he does...But no idea how she remembers that!
  • A conversation between Avery and Aunt Maddie: Aunt Maddie wakes up in the morning and goes over to Avery who is sitting on the couch:
    • Maddie: Morning Avery.
    • Avery: Hiiiii (unsurely). Who are you?
    • Maddie: Avery!! You know who I am.
    • Avery: Are you Aunt Maddie?
    • Maddie: Yes it's me, I am just wearing glasses (takes them off)
    • Avery: Oh, sorry! The glasses threw me off
  • She has developed a fear of bugs. There was a spider in the car one day and Aunt Maddie killed it for her. She was still freaked out and talked about the spider for 2 days.
  • Avery LOVES to swing. It's all she wants to do at the park. And is still pretty scared on slides but we are working on it. She is not the most adventurous par goer.
  • Some common phrases: "I can't believe it!", "You're making me frustrated!!" and (after asking what something is) "OH, I wish I could do that. Maybe when I am older."
  • We were swinging and she said "Remember when I used to suck your boob and get milk. Remember that mama? And then I drank it all. We should get some more milk to put back in."
  • I hurt my finger and she said "Don't worry mama. It will heal in 2 months." She is always asking if things will heal and telling us to go to the supermarket to get more.
  • We transitioned to a Big Girl Bed this month - When getting back from vacation she was really resisting sleeping in her crib (since she had spent the week in Michigan sleeping with me) and always wanting to "Sleep somewhere else, like G's bed" when it was time to go to sleep. So we moved her to the toddler bed but it has not been a huge help. She is fine in there and doesn't leave the bed until we are in the room. But, she is still fighting bed time and having wake-ups around 4 am where she says she had a bad dream about monsters and needs to go sleep in "G's bed." When we give in, it never goes well for anyone involved so we are working through some sleep issues at the moment.
  • After Easter, Avery was loving "Marshmallow Peeps". So one morning she asked me for one and I said "No, you can have one after dinner for dessert." I go upstairs to get ready and come back down and she's eating Peep. She told Hung that I said she could have one so he gave in. And as she's eating it, she tells Hung "Mama gonna be mad at me. I am not supposed to have this." Haha.
  • This morning she announced that she was done with Paci's and doesn't need them anymore. She proceeded to gather them all up and throw them in the garbage in her bedroom. My gut says that decision lasts until bedtime tonight but we'll see. Maybe we are at least getting closer to being fully rid of the Paci! (Update - This lasted less than 12 hours :))
  • Avery is just like me - LOVES to have her feet, back and arms rubbed. And oddly also loves to have her armpits scratched.
  • She also has a VERY sensitive sense of smell and is quick to tell you when something smells bad. Like if she doesn't like how your food smells she'll tell you to have the waitress take it away. And is really dramatic about it ("EEEWWWWW!!")
  •
Avery held up her sign and then wanted to show off her painted nails this month (and she picked out her dress and shoes which she thought looked great together)

Grandparents Day at UHS

Avery and I headed over to UHS on Friday morning for Grandparent's Day. Avery loved eating the Powdered Sugar donuts for breakfast and exploring the Biology room with Carolyn Bradley. She got to meet some rats, frogs, spiders, turtles and snakes. The rat bit her pinwheel which cracked her up - Apparently the rat thought it was a treat. Avery is still talking about the rat biting her toy. She also loved petting the turtle. We explored the school and G and Papa were able to show Avery off to lots of other teachers and students. It was such a fun way to end the week!

Avery struggles with posing for Pics and this was, sadly, the best one I got of her and G

Easter Weekend 2014

We had such a wonderful Easter weekend! On Saturday we went to a giant Egg Hunt with our friends Kenny, Jaime, Brooke and Zach. They had a bunch of activities for the kids before the hunt and once Avery realized there was no baby swing for her she decided to try the other options. She loved meeting the dog and cow characters and would run right up whenever they were near us. She also enjoyed "driving" the fire truck. Avery also got her face painted for the first time and chose a grey bunny - she took it all very seriously. And there was a GIANT slide - We thought she would be too scared since she normally is terrified of slides. But she tried it a couple times with Hung and then braved it on her own. She was so proud of herself and we were shocked she did it!

Then a helicopter flew over several times and dropped all the eggs and once we were allowed in Avery charged ahead and filled her bucket. Once Avery and Brooke traded in their eggs for candy they paid no attention to us and were off in their own sugar filled world.

Avery left a note and carrots and lettuce out for the bunny before bed. And was SO excited when she woke up to find her basket. She was squealing and jumping up and down waiting to go downstairs. She found her basket pretty easily and tore in to the candy - which she continued to do all day! We had a great brunch at our house with G, Papa, Uncle Cullen, Kristen and Grammy. G and Papa had an amazing spread that they brought to my house and we spent the afternoon and evening enjoying the awesome weather. We now have to re-teach Avery that every day does not start out with jelly beans, chocolate and peeps :)

Easter Party 2014

Avery and I hosted all of her friends from our play group today and had so much fun! Thanks to Rebecca for giving me some yummy Brunch Recipes (French Toast Casserole, Oatmeal Bake and Cheesy Potatoes). I also took Rebecca's idea and had the kids plant "Magic Jelly Beans" out front. When the kids were ready to leave, cookie suckers appeared. Avery found a few stray Jelly Beans and said "These ones didn't grow."

I had buckets for all the kids and we had an egg hunt outside. It was a beautiful day so we got to spent lots of time in the backyard playing. Avery was a total Egg Hog and filled her bucket to the top and then only wanted to Swing (as usual)! Gloria brought over her bounce house and the kids had a blast. Since we finally have the contract work done in our house, this was our first time hosting an event and it was so fun having everyone here and being able to enjoy the basement and the yard. And we could not have asked for better weather!

It was a little crazy with 10 adults and over 15 kids but totally worth it! Thanks to G for helping me prep for the party. And thanks to Hung who helped during before, during and after the festivities get the house ready and cleaned up :)

Playing in the Exercise Room - The kids randomly loved it all the baby toys we have stashed in there!
