Happy 6 Month Birthday Avery!

We had Avery's 6 month check-up today and everything went great! She did very well with her shots - just a few tears and then acted totally normal the rest of the day (so much better than the 2 and 4 month shots). As you can see below, Avery had lots of fun waiting for Dr. Robinson to come into the room. Here are the Stats from Avery's 6 month appointment:
  • Weight: 17 lbs 12 oz (80th percentile) She's slimming down!!
  • Height: 27.25 inches (90th percentile)
  • Head: 42.6 cm
Here's what's happening at the beginning of Month 6:
    • Avery still loves to roll around and is getting closer to crawling - She sometimes goes up onto all fours and is starting to scoot a little bit
    • She is getting a lot better at sitting up her on own - her balance could use some work and she usually leans forward and starts grabbing for something but she can pretty much do it by herself now
    • Avery continues to be very chatty - she says lots of da-da-da's. We try to point to Hung when she does this but the connection is not there yet. She will also throw in other consonants every once in a while.
    • Avery loves daycare now and gives her teachers big smiles every morning. She is taking 5 oz bottles and great naps (If we could only duplicate these great naps at home....)
    • Her eyes are grey/blue - The Dr. thinks they will not get any darker
    • She has 4 teeth now - 2 top and 2 bottom. The top 2 have been a lot more painful coming in than the first two and it caused some fussiness and trouble sleeping
    • Avery likes to sleep on her tummy and sometimes on her side - She sleeps from about 8:30-8:30 and usually wakes once or twice for a quick snack. Sleep is getting better but not perfect....It's been our biggest struggle! We are working to cut out the night feedings.
    • She is attentive and curious - loves to reach for everything!! She is very into phones and remotes and also likes to watch TV like her mom :) And Avery has a great attention span and will play with toys on her own for quite some time
    • Avery is still really into her Jumparoo and also loves to just roll around on her playmat. She loves teething toys and anything that is crinkly, colorful or that she can chew on. She likes books but is typically most interested in putting them in her mouth.....
    • Avery still loves bath time with Dad
    • Avery is getting better at "standing" and her legs are getting very strong
    • She is doing pretty well at taking her oatmeal every night and we will be starting solids this month. Looking forward to how she reacts to the new tastes and textures. We tried peas tonight and they went OK.
    • Avery learned how to give "raspberries" and will sometimes mimic you doing them - She likes to do them when eating oatmeal and sometimes will give them to you if you put your cheek near her lips. If you do them to her she finds it very funny.
    • She is the best nurser and both of us love it!! I'll be sad when our nursing days are over.
    • Avery can be very clingy to mom, especially right when getting home from daycare. She does pretty well with "strangers" but usually needs to know where mom and dad are.
    • Avery hates when people cough - she either cries or looks at you like she's super annoyed
We celebrated her birthday with a beautiful red velvet 1/2 cake from Grams. Avery is still too little to enjoy it so there was more for us :)

Happy 1/2 Birthday Avery - Can't wait to see all that's to come these next 6 months!! It does go by very fast but also seems to just get better and better.

It's getting harder to get her monthly photos as she's just so busy and really needs to eat the sign!

    Road Tripping to Peoria

We spent the past weekend visiting Hung's parent's in Peoria, IL. Avery did great on the 3 1/2 drive both there and back - On the way home we didn't even need to stop since she napped the whole time! We hadn't seen them since Thanksgiving so it was really fun for Gom and Gom Ma to see how much Avery has grown and changed. She had a lot of fun seeing her grandparents and playing with Uncle Du. Avery really warmed up to Du on this visit and just couldn't get enough of him - she loved showing off her Hawkeye dress which mom allowed since we all know she is a Wolverine at heart :) Hung's mom made us lots of great meals, we did some shopping at the mall and had lots of quality Avery play time. Unfortunately, she had a lot of trouble sleeping in her pack-n-play (On night 2 she was up from 12-4, 4:20-5:30 and 6:30 on), so not great nights for Hung and me. But luckily we had lots of willing babysitters and were able to get some extra rest in the morning while everyone played with Avery (not sure how she had any energy but she was in a great mood). Thankfully, she has returned to her normal sleep routine since we got home.

    School Pictures

Below are Avery's school pictures - She was pretty distracted during the photo shoot and was more interested at looking at the other kids in line and the playing with props. I think my favorite picture is the one that shows all of her chins :)

    A True Belly Laugh

Avery fell in love with her Uncle Du this past weekend and found him to be VERY funny. He got some of the best belly laughs out of her that we have ever seen. For some reason she found him dropping a ball a foot above the floor, throwing a water bottle into the air and catching it and playing peek-a-boo to be HYSTERICAL. It got to the point where she would just see the back of him and smile because he is just that funny.....
