10 Month Update

Avery turned 10 Months Old today! Here is the update:
  • Wearing 9 -18 month clothing.
  • Hair is continuing to fill in and get thicker.
  • Loves to feed herself and will only take purees at daycare. Her favorites lately are any type of meat or cheese. We pretty much give her what we eat and let her try new things all the time. Except raspberries and avocados there is nothing she won't eat.
  • Avery is getting much better at taking water out of her sippy on her own.
  • She is very mobile - crawls and cruises everywhere. Her teachers told me that she has stood on her own for a couple seconds and did it tonight while I was taking her photo. I don't think we are too far off from walking. She can get herself anywhere!
  • Avery is getting more and more vocal - lots of grunts, babbling, squealing and pointing. She really wants to talk to us!
  • Avery is still sleeping pretty well and goes down very easily at night. She sometimes wakes in the night and fusses for a bit but it's usually not too bad. She gets up around 6:30 regardless of when we put her to bed.
  • She mostly likes to crawl around and explore but the one toy she really loves lately is the musical instrument set we got her. She loves to shake the tambourine and maracas and play with the drum sticks! She has also been enjoying playing with her books and taking all of them out of the bin.
  • We see her personality continue to grow - she is very happy, smiley and sweet but can also be a bit bossy and lets us know what she wants. She rarely cries for long, can be a bit shy when she first meets you but is silly and outgoing once she feels comfortable.
  • Happy 10 month Birthday Avery - Can't believe you will be a year in two short months......

Happy 89th Birthday Grammy

Since we will be in Leland for Grammy's actual birthday, we celebrated her birthday tonight. Hung's parents visited us this week because their restaurant was closed so we were treated to a homemade feast that Trinh and Quang worked on all day! My mom supplied the cake, ice cream and birthday napkins and we had a great celebration. Cullen and Chuck were able to join as well.

Happy 89th Birthday Grammy - we love you lots!

BBQ With Mom's Group

Avery and I have been spending most Fridays with the Moms and Babies that we met at the St. Vincent Breastfeeding Support Group. After the babies got too big for "Group", we formed our own playgroup and we rotate hosting every Friday morning. We decided it would be fun to get all the moms, dads and babies together for a cook out. And all but one family were able to make it, so we had a great turn out.

Hung and I were able to host the BBQ at University High School. Everyone pitched in with food and supplies (and my mom helped us a ton) and we had perfect weather for the day. A bunch of the babies spent time in the kiddie pool (Avery even made it in and only cried a little bit!), we played outside and then ended up eating and playing inside for the rest of the afternoon. It was really fun to meet all the husbands that we have all been hearing so much about for the last 10 months.

And Avery seemed to have fun playing with all the babies - As soon as everyone left she crashed and took a 3 hour nap - One tired, worn out girl! It was a great afternoon and we hope to make it an annual event.

We wanted to get more pictures - but it was such a busy day that I was only able to snap a few candids.

Happy Fathers Day 2012

The big event this past weekend was getting Grammy settled in Indy! She arrived on Friday and my mom has been working non-stop since to get her new apartment all ready. There are just a few final touches needed - but it looks great and we are very excited to have her here.

Unfortunately, Hung had to work most of the weekend but we did fit in some fun things - We had dinner at my mom's on Friday, family photo's on Saturday morning (some sneak peeks are below), a BBQ at a friend's house on Saturday night and Hung was able to get to the driving range on Sunday before working the rest of the day. Avery and I spent Father's Day checking out Cullen's new house in downtown Indy and having lunch on Mass Ave.

Hung did get some snuggle time with Avery and they were both able to enjoy his new i-Pad a bit :)

Avery is very lucky to have Hung as her Dad and I look forward to all the Father's Days to come. Hopefully next year he won't have to work and can enjoy his day with Avery!

9 Month Update

Avery turned 9 months on May 28th - Here is what is happening as we start month 9:

Stats:
  • Weight: 20lbs 14oz (85th percentile)
  • Height: 28 3/4 inches (85-90th percentile)
  • Head:  44.7cm (70-75th percentile)
General Info:
  • Wearing 9-12 month clothing.
  • She has a whopping 8 teeth!
  • Getting lots more hair - still too fine for a barrette but getting closer....I noticed in some older posts that I had put she was "getting more hair" when she still pretty much looked bald :) Now she is actually getting real hair.
  • She is doing great with solids and trying more and more different foods. Her favorite part of any meal is cheerios at the end. We are giving her more solids and "table food" and starting to do less purees. I am excited to start getting more adventurous and letting her try more things. Avery also learned how to take the lid off the Puffs jar with her teeth.
  • She is still taking 6 oz. bottles at daycare and typically has 5 feedings a day and 3 solid meals (oatmeal and fruit at breakfast and then fruits/veggies/grains for lunch and dinner)
  • She's a great little crawler - and really fast...If you leave her for a second she takes off. We call her a Monster Truck because she'll bulldoze over anything in her path. She is also great at pulling herself up and loves to just be standing. She seems to be getting close to cruising but is not there quite yet.
  • Avery talks and squeals a ton - she says lots of dadadas and mamamas and all sorts of other things
  • Avery is still VERY busy - no other way to say it! The girl does not stop moving. She is not in to snuggle or cuddle time. She needs to be on the move.
  • Avery is still sleeping well - typically takes 2 naps a day (she seems to nap better at daycare than at home on the weekends). At night she goes down between 8 and 8:30 and gets up between 6:30 and 7. The only time we seem to really have trouble is when she has an ear infection, cold and every once in a while we have bad nights but there is no rhyme or reason to it.
  • We are noticing that she is getting a bit more shy and quiet around strangers but is very outgoing and happy when she's with people she knows. She's the most clingy with mom.
  • She has learned to wave bye-bye and does it all the time!! She also is starting to mimic more and more - like blowing raspberries, feeding you cheerios after you feed her one, moving up and down ("dancing") when her toys play music, etc.
  • Avery has also learned to clap and "pat pat" (when you pick her up she gives you a pat pat on the shoulder and also pat pats Hershey - it's very sweet!)
  • I try to read her books everyday but she is typically too busy and tries to turn over and crawl out of my lap. Am hoping she'll start liking them again someday.
  • She is just a good baby - She does well in the car, is so good at restaurants and when we run errands and is not fussy. Avery laughs and smiles all the time. As long as she can play and move around (and get her meals and nursing in) she is a happy girl. We are very lucky.
Thanks to Uncle Nate for the new dress - she looks super cute in it!
