100 Days of School

Tay celebrated 100 Days of school this Friday. It's a Kindergarten tradition to wear something with a 100 on it and Tay had the COOLEST shirt ready to go thanks to the help of Ackey! He looked SO cute and I am excited to hear about his day and what 100 themed activities they did.

He was concerned this morning that the kids at school won't understand "100 Days Out of Sight" since he didn't know what it meant...He was a little irritated about it in his Tay way :)

My Grown Up Avery

Just like her mom, Avery got her period at 10. I knew she would probably get it early given the changes in her body over the past 6 months so she was totally ready and aware it could happen. After school she went to the bathroom and realized it had happened (lucky it didn't start at school!) and came and told me right away. She was SO calm and mature about it (and a little in shock). We realized the pads I have were WAY too big so G came over and we went to Target and got her stocked up on supplies (Teen Pads, Liners, Period Underwear and heating pad). She told her close friends and even sent a text about it to the family text chat. I am just BLOWN AWAY by how she handled this - asked lots of good questions to understand what her body is doing and wanting to know how to change pads, how often, etc. She is just the best human and I am SO SO proud to be her mom. She is growing up and while I LOVED her as a baby and little kid, this big kid stage is pretty fun and breathtaking to watch.  She asked me to take this picture to capture the moment:

And then I see her asleep with her stuffed animal and remember that she can sometimes still be my little girl

Ackey brought her an amazing "Grown Up" Basket this weekend to celebrate the big event! She went WAY overboard but it was MUCH appreciated - Avery loved everything. She also brought a science magic kit for Tay that was a big hit! And then the dogs woudln't leave her alone LOL!

Taylor's "Famous" Slushies

Since we got a little snow, Tay resurrected his "famous" slushies. They consist of snow (which seems to always have some dog hair and dirt in it...), Pink Lemonade, Sprite, and Orange Gatorade. He has a certain order in how he mixes it and then puts it in the freezer for 40 minutes and sets a timer. He is then SOOO excited to serve us all giant bowls of this specialty and we all have to pretend we love it while finding ways to put it down a sink or toilet without him seeing. He thinks they are SO amazing and is SO proud of himself that we don't have the heart to tell him they are overly sweet, dirty and gross. LOL. Love that boy!

A Fun Winter Weekend

We had a fun and cozy winter weekend. Avery went to a sleepover on Friday while Hung and Tay watched the first Spiderman movie and Tay loved it. He asked a bunch of questions and really wanted to figure everything out. On Saturday, we had a visit from Ackey and put together Tay's 100 Days of School shirt. Then we were super lazy and just stayed home. Tay decided to build a giant bed for us to relax in - Part of it was a "massage area" which Avery took advantage of and Tay and I actually slept in it and made it ALL night! I was pretty proud of us.

On Sunday, Hung and Du went to hit golf balls while I took the kids roller skating with the Donnelson's. Avery got into the groove quickly and had a blast skating with me, Nora and Jayme. Tay could not get his balance and was frustrated and done within about 5 minutes of starting.....His main accomplishment was playing games on my phone and draining my battery. Everyone loved pizza and the arcade area where the kids pooled their tickets and all got some candy. I loved it and it brought me back to when I was kid and loved to roller skate!! Would for sure go back again soon with Avery!!

Then G came over, we watched Michigan beat IU, had white-chicken chili, made some banana-oatmeal cookies and then ended the night playing Dogman and the kids did some singing competitions. A great end to the weekend :)

Tooth #3 for Tay Man

Tay's top teeth have been wiggly for a while. It seemed ready to come out and G gave it a good yank before dinner but no success. Tay was eating some leftover pizza before bed and out it came! No tears, a little blood and lots of excitement!! He asked the tooth fairy to sprinkle him with the dust that gives you good dreams and also to please leave the tooth under the pillow. We will see in the morning if she complies. Am going to miss that cute baby tooth but the gap smile is pretty amazing!

Chicago Girls Weekend

Maddie and I planned a Girls Weekend in Chicago so we would have something to look forward to after the holidays. Grandma T, Avery and I headed to Maddie's for the long weekend and had the BEST time. On Friday night, we ordered in taco's, relaxed and got to meet their neighbor's Hedgehog "Chunky" who was SO cute!!

On Saturday, we started at this amazing Illusion Museum - the highlight was the whole hour we spent on the slide puzzle and successfully finished after much patience and trial and error. We were SUPER proud of ourselves. Then we went shopping up and down State Street and found Avery the perfect outfit for the Olivia Rodrigo concert - she is going to look AMAZING! We all found some goodies for ourselves and then headed to Lincoln Park for Chicago Pizza and Grinders. I had never been there before and it for sure lived up to the hype. After a great and filling dinner, we headed back downtown and saw Frozen. It was fun to be back in theater and the show was really cute and well down. We ended the night with ice cream, jammies and The Office. On Sunday we had an amazing brunch and Uncle Eddie joined us and then we headed up to Andersonville for more shopping and this crazy, creepy "museum" shop with all sorts of interesting things like a two headed cow, tons of bones and art by John Gacy. We then relaxed at Maddie's for the afternoon and headed to LaGrange to see Jill, Josh, Molly and Derek. Molly was SO excited to see Avery and Avery was such a great sport doing lots of hand clapping "shows" and playing pretend. I loved catching up with Jill and Josh and it was the perfect way to end the weekend. We headed home Monday morning and were excited to see Hung, Tay, G, and Uncle Du (and the Dogs!).

The Boys had a great weekend back in Indy. They played lots of Smash Brothers, Tay had Briggs, King and Robin over to play. And G had Tay sleep over on Sunday night - They had dinner at Culvers and talked a ton about MLK and Bobby Kennedy. Tay was so into all of it and really wanted to understand the civil rights movement. On Monday, G and Uncle Cullen went to visit the Landmark for Peace Memorial in down Indy (In G's hat and mitten's and Papa's scarf for warmth). We had a relaxing afternoon getting ready for the week and all went out to dinner before getting ready for bed!
