Tay's 19 Month Update

It has been a busy month with moving out of G's and into our new home! Tay has done a great job adjusting and seems to love the new digs. Here are some updates from the past month:

  • His sleeping habits were unchanged with the move - He still feels the need to shriek/scream at some point every night but wakes up happy and take a good 2.5-3 hour nap most days around 1:30.
  • Tay has a very cute gesture now where he throws up his arms like "I don't know??" with his shoulders shrugged and palms up. I need to try to get it on camera but it's really cute and makes everyone laugh. He does it all the time when you ask anything in a questioning voice.
  • He is starting to say a few more things here and there - NOPE/no no no with vigorous head shaking we hear a lot, Thank You is one he has said clear as day a few times, Mama is still a favorite, Dada has finally been said some, Yeah and OK we also hear and he's getting better at mimicking and and communicating what he needs/wants.
  • He loves to be pushed around in his play cars outside and go on walks. Also loves the slides at the park - will go down, climb up again, go down over and over!
  • Tay loves playing with balls, golf clubs, basketball hoop and soccer net - very into sports. And just toys in general - He gets really into whatever he finds and then gets pretty darn mad if you take anything away from him before he is done with it.
  • He also likes singing and dancing and enjoys playing with Avery's Karaoke machine. I love when we are in the car and I'll peek back in the mirror and he is just jamming to a song on the radio bopping his head.
  • And, as always, he loves Avery's toys. He likes to go into her closet and get out her Mashems and Shopkins and play with her stuff.
  • Tay is starting to like being read to a TON more - We read books before bed and he'll now sit, listen, point out things on the page and actually have the patience to sit through full stories. And will now week out books and bring them to us.
  • His favorite TV show is Curious George but he'll get sucked into any cartoon that is on.
  • He still loves to play on bed and do the "fake sleeping/snoring" game.
  • Tay also likes to play with the baby dolls and carry them around.
  • He has also been really into have Tea Parties with their china tea set (he is totally not gentle with it so it is always on the verge of shattering). He likes to "pour" you tea and then drink it with you. You can see is imagination is really taking off and he's really getting into these "pretend" games.
  • Tay is a super playful kid  - loves to run around and be chased and just giggles and squeals with delight
  • He is starting to show interest in the potty - If he sees you going he has to get toilet paper and "wipe" and put it in the toilet. And when changing his diaper he wants to wipe himself which is usually not helpful but is very cute.
  • We are still nursing before bed and he is still a great eater (when he has the patience for it!).
  • Tay just learned how to "beat box" from Hung. He thinks it so funny!
  • He is currently REALLY into wearing Avery's Little Mermaid costume - will wander around in that thing all day!
  • We were worried he might not remember how to do stairs after living at my mom's for 5+ months but he has picked it right back up. He climbs them standing up and holding on to the wall or railing (the other day he walked up with a bowl full of dry cereal and didn't spill a thing which was impressive). And to go down we have to remind him to turn around and then he scoots down on his tummy. We have some gates installed to be safe but he's doing great with them!
  • Tay never wants to be left out - If he sees you leaving he has to run and get his coat and he just always wants to be a part of the action.

Random Dress Up

I was playing with the kids in the basement last night and Avery wanted to dress up as a witch - She went and made a wand out of pipe cleaners and foam stickers and also found a cauldron, cat and broomstick. It was a challenge to carry it all! And then we kept asking Tay if he wanted to dress up in his bear costume, which is the only one that fits him. But he kept saying "NOPE" and pointing at the Ariel costume. And then proceeded to walk around in it, press the button that plays the song and do his Tay dancing. So funny! And I also love seeing the kids enjoy the new basement and all their toys :)

Visit from Grandpa, Grandma T, Aunt Maddie and Eddie

My Dad's family came to visit last weekend and see the new house. It was fun to host and have everyone over. Avery was SO excited all week for them to come and she had a blast playing with everyone. There was lots of games, coloring, bike riding and playing at the park, eating, college basketball, celebrating Maddie and Grandma T's bdays, Snapchat and Selfie fun with Aunt Maddie, and just hanging out. Tay also loved having everyone over - he was busy and silly and cracking everyone up with his expressions and chatter. We were sad to see everyone go but so thankful we got some good time together. I didn't get many pics - But luckily Aunt Maddie took a few :)

Avery's Spring Concert

Avery had her last concert with MSW this past weekend. She did such a sweet job performing "Whistle While You Work" and "Bear Necessities" with her classmates - Being one of the oldest this year she knew all the words, choreography and showed lots of great expressions. I totally teared up watching her. Hung didn't get to watch as closely since Tay was freaking out about not being allowed onstage so he had to keep him quiet. We ended the night with Mexican food with Jaime, Brooke, Kenny, Zach and G. It was a wonderful evening!!

Avery's Book Report

Avery had her first official "homework" assignment this year and created a book report on "The Girl Who Lost Her Name". All the commentary, cutting and gluing were done solely by Avery. She did an awesome job!!

1/2 Birthday Celebration Weekend

I think Avery may be one of the few who is super into 1/2 birthdays but they girl can't get enough. We "celebrated" on Saturday by going to the Children's Museum with Aunt Amy. There is a new circus exhibit and we spent our entire visit there. We didn't even make it to see Ruby Bridges!! Avery got to try lots of different circus acts like unicycles, being "shot" out of a cannon, juggling, ladders and acrobatic rings. She also got to do a 3D Virtual Tightrope walk. And the best part was she signed up to be in the circus - Aunt Amy and Avery spent 30 minutes practicing their act backstage and then performed for about 100 people. Avery and Amy were the Cows in the Animal act and they did a great job. At the end Taylor was trying to run up and give Avery a goldfish - she was so embarrassed and trying to shoo him off stage and didn't want to break character.

Taylor spent most of his time climbing a random staircase, playing with someone else's rented wagon and pushing his own stroller around. He did ride the chocolate slide with Amy which he enjoyed but the rest of the time he could have been anywhere and having just as much fun :)

Saturday night we celebrated the 1/2 birthdays with cupcakes provided by KJ and a few small presents. UHS was hosting the boys sectionals so we crashed the hospitality suite for our party. She was one happy girl!! And Tay was just happy to be hanging around and doing Tay things!

On Sunday, Hung spent time working on the house and I took both kids to the movies with Lila, Lena and Bill - It was Tay's first time and he was mesmerized!! He never once tried to get down - watched the entire movie (Rock Dog), danced during the music parts and ate popcorn. At the end of the movie, the kids ran to the front and danced through the credits. It was really fun!
