Tay is 18 Months Old

Happy 1 1/2 Years Tay Man!! Here is what the little nugget is up to:

Stats:
Weight: 24 lbs 2 oz (30th %-ile)
Height: 32.5 inches (50th %-ile)
Head: 46.5 cm (20th %-ile)

  • Tay has all 16 of his baby teeth
  • He is in size 6 shoes and 12-18 month clothes
  • He loves to blow kisses - When Hung and Tay left Peoria, he was waving and blowing kisses out the window to Hung's parents and Uncle Du
  • His terrible 2's came early - The boy can throw a tantrum like no other. As soon as he sees he is going to be told "no" he loses his mind!! Example: We were at the Monon Center and he was playing on a piano and then we were told he couldn't. As soon as I picked him it was total ear piercing screams. He was insane and distraught.
  • Tay is very agile. He has really great balance, can run fast and and "has a good arm" as Avery says. Although when he does get angry, he throws things at you in a really mean way. He loves to climb up on anything but thankfully has not attempted to climb out of his crib yet!
  • Tay is obsessed with dogs - LOVES them and hates when he has to say goodbye to one. Coby came for a visit recently and when Ashley was trying to rock Tay before nap he was crying and reaching for his bedroom door because he wanted to keep playing with the dog.
  • He naps once a day around 1pm and sleeps from about 8-7:30. He still wakes up every night but now more just plays and chats in his crib until he falls back asleep. The terrified screaming has, thankfully, dissipated, and he'll play around in his crib if he is not in the mood to sleep.
  • He still loves to nurse - usually morning and night. And when Ashley gets here in the morning - He either decides he needs to nap OR go play in my room. He knows it means I am about to go to work and totally tries to stall.
  • He is usually a good eater - although lately is too busy for breakfast. Current favorites include fruit, pizza, applesauce packets, yogurt and pasta and sauce (he gets crazy messy when he eats it though!). He also LOVES to dip things into ketchup - and food just becomes a vessel to eating ketchup. Last night he thought my chili was ketchup and was dipping his cantaloupe into it and loving it!
  • While he is not saying much more than "mama" and "uh oh" he does follow directions and understands a ton of what we say. He said "sit" and "mine" the other day.
  • Tay is still obsessed with Avery and wants to do what she is doing and hold whatever she has. If she has a mashem - he needs one to hold. If she has a snack, he runs to his cabinet, gets a bowl and goes to the pantry to he can have one, too!
  • He likes playing with the space heaters in our room and always turns them to be always on. So sometimes I wake up in the night to a super hot room and it's always Tay that has turned it on. Similarly, we kept seeing that the dishwasher was running all the time and realized Tay was walking by and starting it randomly all the time.
  • Tay loves to be part of Avery's dance parties. She likes to have dance battles with Hung and me. During them, Tay likes to run around with the speaker and spin and spin until he falls over.
  • Tay is really into being outdoors - loves to go to the park, climb, just walk around. If you ask if he wants to go to the park, he'll run to get his shoes and coat. And he gets really frustrated when it's time to go back inside. He would stay outside all day if we let him!
  • He is also into playing pretend nap. He liked to crawl into Avery's bad, grab a pillow, pull a blanket over him and fake snore. It's really funny! He also thinks it's really fun to play in the dark in his room and jump on Hung.
  • Tay likes driving Avery to school - totally chill in the car but then gets sad when we pull into her school. He starts panicking and crying when he knows she is about to leave for the day.
  • He's a funny, strong willed kiddo who loves to play, explore and do his own thing. He has a great silly laugh and we love him to pieces!!

Not really into the sign but SUPER into this small box and bowl of dried apricots

Avery Jamming to Uncle Nate and Aunt Maddie

While driving to Detroit for the weekend, we were listening to random songs on my phone and some old recordings of Maddie and Nate came on. We heard Maddie singing songs that she recorded at Cedar Point in 2006 and Nate playing with his high school band "Pilot". She is now OBSESSED with them - She made sure Ella and Hannah listened to her amazing Aunt Maddie and we listened to the songs over and over and over again on the drive there and back. We also played the Vanessa Carlson version of "1,000 Miles" and Avery goes "Aunt Maddie's version is SO much better". She fell asleep last night listening to them on repeat. So darn sweet!!

Avery on the Radio

Avery loves listening to Mindy on Kids Place Radio in the morning on the way to school. Her and Hung have been trying to dial in and get on air for a while now. On the way to school today they finally got through. The topic was "If you traveled light years away to a different planet and met some aliens what would you give them?" Avery got on the radio and she said "I would give them kindness". Mindy then asked how she would do that and Avery sort of froze, looked at Hung and said "what should I say" and then just went with "I would give them kindness" again. LOL. Hung said she was SO excited and thinks that "hundreds of people were listening" to her. Major check off the bucket list for Avery today!!

Tay and Hank

We went to the Blue Bash tonight at UHS and Tay had so much fun playing with Hank to unofficial mascot! Even though he showed zero expression he was loving it and FREAKED out when he had to give someone else a turn.

Avery and Rachael's Detroit Weekend

Avery and I headed to Detroit for a weekend with the Bolton's. It was the 75th anniversary gala at Roeper so it was a good excuse to head to Michigan and see old friends. The gala was amazing and Avery had a blast playing with Ella and the babysitter. Saturday was a busy day!! Avery went to Ella's swim lesson, then we headed to the zoo (which both girls loved - but were SO tired from walking after about 30 minutes), Ella's soccer game, ice cream, park, dinner and movie night. Avery had so much playing with Hannah and Ella. Ella and Avery had a sleepover on Saturday night in Ella's room - they were asleep by 7:30 but decided 4:45 was a good time to wake up. Shockingly, Avery never napped on Sunday, even on the 5 hour drive home. I would LOVE to have that energy. It was a great weekend with beautiful weather and the best of friends. We can't wait to have them come visit us in the new house soon!
