Time with Daddy

I was in Buffalo, NY all week for a training class for work and Hung and Avery were on their own. My mom had the flu so Hung truly was on his own and he did great job keeping everything going smoothly at home.

Avery did have some major missing mommy moments (with some teary Facetime calls) - So much so that she slept with my picture a couple of the nights. One of the nights she woke up and fell out of bed because she was reaching for my picture :) It made me feel good that I was missed but was sorry Hung had to deal with the crazy Avery emotions.

One funny exchange between Hung and Avery on their drive home from school:

Avery: "Lilah said something funny at school today. She said 'Don't tell the teacher' and then whispered 'Boobs'."
Hung: "Really?"
Avery: "Yeah, it was really funny. Then when I grow up I'll have boobs like you Daddy."
Hung: "Thank you Avery."

Avery also told my mom that Friday was not a good day at school because of the whole "bug thing". Apparently, she found a dead ant on a book shelf and told Mrs. Sumski who threw it away. It was a VERY big deal and really ruined her day!

Hung had Lila over one night and the girls had a blast playing dress up, going potty together and having dinner.

Easter Egg Hunts

We had two Easter Egg Hunts this weekend. The first we went to Grammy's - Avery got to meet the Easter Bunny. She was not fooled and told us he was just the pretend Easter Bunny because he could talk and real bunnies can't talk. Avery participated in the 0-3 category and cleaned up!

The second one was at West Park with Lila and Tobin (who Avery always says she is going to marry) from her class. The kids had fun playing on the play ground despite the chilly weather. Then it was time for the hunts - Avery participated in the 4-6 age Hunt so she could go with her friends. She didn't get quite as many this time and was pretty disappointed at first. Then we headed back to my mom's with Lila and Marija. Once the girls were off playing Avery was over her "small" number of eggs from the second hunt.

It was a very fun morning!!

Dying Easter Eggs

Avery had her first adventure dying Easter Eggs last night. She liked the dying and decorating (and went very heavy on the glue, paint and jewels). I still can't get her hands and arms clean today but am glad she had fun....She liked using the wax crayon and made messages for Uncle Du and Otis who arrived late last night for a visit. It was a success and she also realized she really likes hard boiled eggs.

Jim Henson's Dinosaur Show

Bill and I took Avery and Lila to see the Jim Henson Dinosaur Show - Unfortunately, we did not know it was a PBS show and the girls had not seen it so they were not too into the actual show. BUT, they had fun together and LOVED the light up toys Bill bought them at the intermission. They spent the second half pretend baking cookies and using their toys as mixers :)

Grandma Hopkins' Funeral

Sadly, my Grandma passed away a couple weeks ago. She had been declining for some time and her congestive heart failure became too much for her to take. She passed peacefully with my Dad, his sisters and my Grandpa (her husband of 65 years) surrounding her.

Hung, Avery and I headed to Midland for her services. While there were some tears and moments of sadness and reflection, it was also a great celebration of a long and good life. I was able to speak at the funeral which I was so grateful to do - Avery cheered me on quietly from the pew and kept wanting to clap. When Uncle Nate played the piano she also kept giving him the thumbs up sign. For a 90 minute service, she did amazingly well!

It wasn't all sadness during our visit. Avery had a blast playing with Uncle Nate and Aunt Maddie and all of my cousin's kids. Especially Devyn and Helene (who Avery kept calling Arlene). They played with her in the pool for hours and won her tons of stuffed animals in the game room. We spent the last morning and Aunt Jenny's and the girls played dress up with her scarves and put on a big show for us. Funerals are sad...But Avery had a lot of fun being with her extended family.

Dentist Visits

Avery had her 6 month check up and we found out she had a cavity on her back molar. Luckily it was from her enamel not growing in right and not from sugar or bad brushing (phew). She had it filled a week later and did amazing!! There no numbing of any kind and she never flinched once - I was so proud of her.

Avery was more concerned with building a tower in the waiting room than dealing with her cavity. Hopefully we are done with those for a while!!

Baking Cupcakes with G

At the MSW Auction, G got me the Baking Basket which was filled with great baking gear and mixes to make treats. Avery and G dug in and made cupcakes on Saturday night. YUM!

Cat in the Hat

Avery, G, Papa and I went to see The Cat in the Hat on Saturday. Lila and Marija were able to join us as well. It was SUCH a cute show and really well done. Avery loved it and followed along in her book throughout the show. She would get sucked into the play and then whisper to me to find the right page. Very sweet.

After the show she took her book and was able to get autographs and pictures with Thing 1, The Fish, and The Cat in the Hat. That is always her favorite part!!

Since the show we have been pretending and playing The Cat in the Hat - acting it out using her puppet theater. Looking forward to seeing more shows at the Carmel Palladium!
