Detroit Weekend with Bec, Jordan, Hannah and Ella

Hung was in California this past weekend for his cousin's wedding and Avery and I headed back to Michigan to see friends.

We stayed with Rebecca, Jordan, Hannah and Ella who were amazing hosts. On Friday we had brunch with Lori Lutz. Avery decided she did not need a nap afterwards and would rather play with Hannah so the girls baked brownies while Ella slept. After nap we took the girls to gymnastics open gym and Avery really loved wearing Hannah's leotard (as well as wearing Hannah's pajamas at night!). We then went out for dinner and the girls decorated Easter Buckets. The girls took a bath after dinner - Ella offered to wash Avery in some of her private parts which cracked Rebecca and me up!

On Saturday, Avery and I went to visit my friend Beth and got to see her new house and go out for lunch which was fun. Avery and I both got a nap after lunch and then that evening I went to the Inaugural Mariann Hoag Scholarship dinner at Roeper while Avery, Hannah and Ella had a babysitter. She was amazing and managed to keep all three girls happy and get them to bed at a decent time. I had a wonderful night at the event with my mom, Chuck, Rebecca, Jordan, Carolyn and Sally Booth (among others). The night concluded with dinner at Lori Lutz's house - she went ALL OUT and we have such a great time.

On Sunday, Rebecca made a fantastic brunch - Linde was able to come so I loved being able to see her for a bit. And the girls used their buckets they had decorated and had an Easter Egg Hunt. Avery really dug into the jelly beans :) We had a pretty easy drive back to Indy and were so excited to see Hung when he arrived home from Indy.

The only sad parts were Michigan losing by 3 to Kentucky in the Elite 8 and saying goodbye to my Michigan friends. I miss them already and wished we lived closer and could see them more.

Thanks to Rebecca for all the AMAZING Pictures :)

Mom and Daughter Weekend

Hung headed to Chicago this weekend to spend time with Du and go to a concert. So Avery and I were on our own. G spent the weekend with us to keep us company and we had a great girls only weekend!

On Friday, we went to the UHS Sectional Game - sadly they lost but Avery had fun running around the school. And when we got home she loved hiding in the suitcase in our closet - the first time she did it it took me a second to find her.

Saturday we spent the morning playing around the house with G and then we took Grammy to lunch. After nap, we had Brooke and Jaime over and the girls tore up the basement and had a blast. I took no pictures :(

On Sunday, we went to the zoo with Leah, Henry and Holden in the morning. It was a little cold but the kids loved being outside and able to run around. A lot of the exhibits are still closed for the winter and our train ride was cut short when the train broke down. But Avery loved the merry-go-round and seeing the animals that were out and about. Excited to go back when it's warmer!!

We can't wait for Hung to get home but we had a great mom and daughter weekend :)

30th Month Update - Avery is 2 1/2!

Little Miss Avery J is 2 1/2 - although she seems like she is about 5! Here are some funny things she said and did this month:

  • Avery has been really into telling jokes. She was at dinner with Hung one night and kept asking why the table next to them was laughing. Hung said they were telling jokes and she wanted to learn all about what jokes are. So she now keeps saying funny things and telling us it's a joke or we'll say something funny to her and she'll ask if it's a joke.
  • She became really into where Pepper and Salt come from. We keep talking about salt mines and pepper seeds and how it eventually gets to our house - She is fascinated by this process.
  • Her favorite shows at the moment are old school Scooy Doo, Martha Speaks, Sheriff Callie and Tom and Jerry (She has Tom and Jerry mixed up and gets really mad if you correct her).
  • She told Hung that he had a terrible singing voice and that Mommy's voice is beautiful and her voice is beautiful. If anyone has heard me sing they know this is far from the truth but am glad I have her fooled. The other night Hung tried to put her to bed and Avery freaked out and wanted me. We asked why and she said "Daddy is a bad singer. His voice is weird." HAHA!
  • She has become quite the negotiator - She always says "How about this idea" and then gives us a propistion and says "How does that idea sound?" This is usually an attempt to watch more TV before bed or to get another snack.
  • Avery started making fun of Hung's sneeze (which happens to be REALLY loud and dramatic). She says "Daddy, when you sneeze it sounds like GOOT AHH" and she makes fun of him every time he sneezes.
  • We had a delivery guy here and Avery was really into. Kept talking to Carlos and showed her the dancing valentine pig my mom gave her. "Carlos - look. We turn on this pig and dance to it." Love how unshy she is around strangers. Was acting like Carlos was her best friend. And now sometimes she plays "Carlos" and carries around her toolkit and pretends to be a "fix it" man.
  • Avery put on Hung's hat backwards and then said "What's Up DAAAWG". We died laughing and asked where she learned it. She said "G taught it to me." My mom swears she had nothing to do with it. Then she said Uncle Du taught it to her....We have no idea where it came from but it's too funny!
  • My mom picked her up from school a few times and she always called her "Grandma" in this very serious, odd tone. It was like she was embarrassed to say "G" to her friends - As soon as they got in the car she would act normal but put on this other persona in front of the "big kids" at after care.
  • We watched the movie "Tangled" and she was really scared of the "bad mommy". Other shows like Scooby Doo don't freak her out in the least but the "bad mommy" really scared and she always makes sure our doors our locked at night so the "bad mommy" can't get her. Actually makes me sad that it scared her so much.
  • She does a dance now that she calls "Shaking my tailfeathers" and bends over, touches the ground and shakes her booty in the air. Looks a bit like twerking and we are not sure where she has seen it......
  • Avery has become quite the sleepyhead. She was sleeping 10 hours a night and has started sleeping 12+. So we have made her bedtime a little earlier and her teachers tell us that sometimes she is skipping nap at school. Not sure how long this will last but the extra sleep on the weekends has been lovely.
  • Avery still uses a pacifier at night - it's a battle we'll have to have at some point. I told her that my dentist said pacifiers are bad and we should stop using them. She said "Well...I think the dentist also said Paci's are really good when you need to go to sleep." Everything starts with "Well...." now.
