21 Month Update

Here are some fun, cute and new things in Month 21:
  • We hear lots of "Avery DO DAT" - She likes to do as much as she can on her own
  • Avery loves Yo Gabba Gabba (despite is trying to get her to watch anything else). It's always "More Gabba" and she loves to dance during the show. Typically, she pulls Hung and me off the couch and we get in on the dancing, too! And she is also a big fan of Sofia the First ("more Fia") - In the last week Fia has seemed to top every other show.
  • We are for sure entering the Terrible Twos!! When we tell her No or something doesn't get her way, she immediately breaks down, flails her arms. and/or throws herself on the floor in tears. We try to re-direct and calm her down but sometimes she just has to work it out on her own (which she does and then is usually in a great mood)
  • She is still loving school. On the way there she asks for her teacher Ms. Becky and runs to her and gives her a big hug every morning. Her favorite place is the playground and she comes home dirty, worn out, and happy almost everyday.
  • Avery is very sweet with her babies. She likes to put them to sleep and tells them "Don't Cry" and "It's OK".
  • We were eating Brussel Sprouts for dinner the other night and she was calling them Turtles and kept asking for "more turtles". It was so cute!
  • She is starting to get a bit more empathetic. One morning I was a little nervous and she could tell. She followed me around rubbing my back and saying "It's OK mama" and "Don't worry mama". It was so darn sweet! And one time Hung got hurt and she ran to the freezer to get him a "Boo Boo Bunny" so he would feel better.
  • Everything is Avery's - "Dis Avey's" is how she pronounces it. The one thing that is not Avery's is the car. When Hung is in the car with her she tells him "Dis Mama's Car" and when I am in the car with her she says "Dis Daddy's Car".
  • She has oddly been liking sitting in her infant car seat - fully strapped in and just hangs out and reads books or watches TV. So random!
  • Avery loves her treats and calls Candy "Chandy" - Chandy normally means yogurt covered raisins.
  • She loves to wear her Minnie Bathing Suit - Over her clothes. And she also loves her Minnie Purse.
  • If you ask Avery to make a funny faces, she points her index fingers into her cheeks, smiles and sticks out her tongue while making a silly noise.
  • We had a scare this month - Avery took a tumble down the basement (but carpeted stairs) at a play group. I was gathering our things to leave and Avery got distracted and the next thing I hear is a thud and Avery is crumpled about 3/4 of the way down the stairs. It was VERY scary (maybe more so for me than Avery) but all she walked away with was a scrape on her nose. Phew! I hated it but am thankful the outcome wasn't so bad.
  • Avery has gotten back into biting a little bit...And sometimes she'll say "I'll bite you mama" or "I'll bite you dada" - it's usually meant playfully but obviously something we scold. We put her in timeout the first time since that is what they do at school and now she just puts herself in timeout. So not really the desired effect.
  • Every morning Avery tells us that she had a dream about Horses. She'll say "The Horsies went up and down" - Like on a carousel.
  • Avery towers over all the kids her age - people are always surprised when we say she is not even 2. Not sure where this height is coming from. Am guessing it will eventually even itself out :)
Avery was not very cooperative with the picture this month - Not our best work!

Memorial Day BBQ

We had Mike, Poonam and Savera over for a Memorial Day BBQ. Hung grilled chicken and steak and we had some yummy sides that we had never made before. After dinner, we all went outside to play and the girls had a lot of fun in the sandbox. Savera was not a fan of the see-saw but Avery liked it. Some of the neighborhood girls came over to play, too. Avery is totally infatuated with them and had a blast. We had to drag inside to bed....Such a fun night!

Playing Piano with Uncle Nate

A Visit from Aunt Maddie and Grandma T

Aunt Maddie and Grandma T stopped by on their way home from Florida. We had not seen Aunt Maddie since Christmas and Avery was so excited to spend time with her. Maddie brought Avery the "Backpack" from Dora which she immediately loved and carried around nonstop.

It was such a nice and hot weekend - Avery got to enjoy the Splash Park that wasn't officially open yet at West Park but was partially turned on. She went in fully clothed and loved every minute of it (I did not have my camera). We also played lots of "Ring Around the Rosie" and ran through the sprinkler in our yard.

Such a fun weekend and we miss them already!!

Happy Mother's Day 2013

We had a great Mother's Day weekend. On Saturday we did the March of Dimes walk with Mike and Poonam - it was a little cold but the rain held off and we had a nice time. Saturday night, G and Papa made us an amazing Crab Leg dinner and we all had fun visiting and exchanging gifts.

Sunday, my mom and I took Parker and Avery to the zoo. Amazingly, this was Avery's first trip to the zoo and she LOVED it. She was fascinated by the animals and always wanted more - We started with the sea lions who were in a very playful mood and we barking a ton. Avery could not get enough! We also got to ride the carousel, play on the playground, ride the train and have some treats. It's a great zoo and I can't wait to take her back in the summer when the splash park is open.

All I could think all weekend is how lucky am I to be the mother to such an amazing little girl? And how blessed I am to have such amazing moms and women and in my life. A lot to be thankful for this Mother's Day!

Family Visits

Uncle Du and his dog Otis came to visit from Chicago this weekend and so did Great Aunt Amy from Lansing.

Friday night we went out for dinner with Grammy, G and Great Aunt Amy. Saturday morning Avery had fun playing with Uncle Du and Otis and "golfing" with Dad and Uncle Du in her pajamas (I was taking a nap so Hung got her "dressed") . Saturday afternoon we went to the park with Great Aunt Amy and Grammy (and I forgot my camera!) and then had dinner with Uncle Du on Saturday night. We ended the weekend with brunch on Sunday with Great Aunt Amy and Grammy.

Avery had lots of good meals and TONS of attention and love - She was one happy girl!
